GTDC POSITION on Restriction on Hazardous Substances Directive (Directive 2002/95/EC)

The applicable national legislation or regulations implementing the RoHS Directive come into force on 1st July 2006 and within the EU this restricts the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment ("RoHS") from that date.

In order for our members to ensure that products which they distribute are compliant with the Directive they will actively demand manufacturers and suppliers for information and appropriate confirmations:
  • That all product shipped into EU from 1st July 2006 will be RoHS compliant. As such they do not contain lead, mercury, hexavalent chromium or the flame retardants PBDE and PBB at or above 0.1% by weight in homogeneous materials and cadmium at 0.01% by weight in homogeneous materials except where exemptions permit their use. On all products for which you claim an exemption you will declare the presence of the substance and the exemption which applies.
  • That as manufacturer with responsibility for and control of product design and production process they have been duly diligent in ensuring that the products supplied are compliant through a formalised process which includes collection and validation of materials declarations and selective materials analysis where appropriate. Further they confirm that this data is controlled as part of a formal quality system and will be made available, upon request, to our members or their customers or directly to the appropriate enforcement agencies to satisfy enforcement demands.
Without your clear confirmation, our distributor members may not distribute your product that is put on the EU market as of July 1, 2006.
